Atlanta's premier party/ funk/ afrobeat phenomenon, contemporaries of The Black Lips, Deerhunter, the Selmanaires, Mastodon, Zoroaster, Gringo Starr, Gentleman Jesse and His Men, The Carbonas, The Coathangers etc. Like most living things, Noot d' Noot was conceived in a bedroom. When not busy gigging with their drug cabal masked as a psychedelic rock band, Good Friday Experiment, Dream Sanitation and Bimbi "Smoofus" Thomas spent Friday nights elbow deep in record crates, analyzing sounds and trying not to wake up the neighbors. After a crash course on co-conspirator "Crab" Louie Warbour's Akai MPC 2000, and with a trunkload of synths and pedals, the beats, blips, and bytes that would become Noot d' Noot were formed. Originally, it was just an experiment attempting to blend the hip-hop, funk, and drum n' bass the boys heard at late night parties with the psychedelia they played in smoky bars. But soon, it became a full-blown musical venture, piquing the interest of emcees, vocalists, musicians, and especially listeners around town. Eventually, Bimbi, Dream Sanitation, and Crab Louie moved out of the bedroom and into The Living Room, a studio they knew on a shady block in the western shadow of Atlanta's downtown. The Living Room allowed the band to explore further the relationship between the manipulated samples and loops of electronic music and the artistry of live musicianship. Collaborators quickly became members, as reedsman Dr. Kinje, percussionist Skins Malone, and the all purpose Jah Scorpion stopped by the studio to record a riff or two and simply never left. The chopped-and-screwed vocals of Dook Platypus had already appeared on many a track, and even more recently Circuit Diva and Electro Siren, collectively known as Efectiv, were recruited as the group's enchanting melodists on Noot's debut 2007 "Jiggle City" single. The band self-released a mixtape in late 2006 which serves as a prelude to the Goofer Dust full-length on International Hits records. Noot d' Noot maintains a unique live stage show, combining the cerebral grooves of their recordings with a non-stop party atmosphere. The band has plenty of experience playing live with various current and past projects, including Dream Sanitation's studio and performance work with Mastodon and Zoroaster, along with Bimbi's percussion work as a member of post-punk Atlanta group The Selmanaires. With the album released and a show almost every weekend, Noot d' Noot seems hardly ready to take a break. "Living the Life", a single featuring Dungeon Family founder/Outkast collaborator Sleepy Brown, was recorded this spring and the band spends as much time in the studio as they do moving crowds. The future looks to hold more shows, more genre-bending musical escapades, and more of the psyched out funky party born out of a bedroom and dropped into the streets. DJ Dookie Platters-June 2008
Download this, it's the jam.
Please seed this. I've been stuck at 68.5% for a while. They're opening for a concert I'm going to and I want to know what they sound like.
